From all around the world, Muslims gather to perform a number of holy pilgrimages- namely Hajj, Umrah and Ziyarah. These individuals spend a lifetime, saving and preparing for these pious journeys. Considered as a very physically as well as spiritually demanding event, these pilgrimages bring with it an abundance of rewards for the Muslim Ummah.
For the followers of Islam to gain the most from holy journeys, Muslims must be prepared for these events in the greatest way possible. Through this method, they can spend their journey by absolute ease and peace of mind
Muslims are required to recite a number of supplications (Duas) to gain their Lord’s greatest blessings. So let’s take an in-depth look at the various supplications that are beneficial for the journey of Hajj, Umrah, and Ziyarah.
1. Niyyah of Hajj
Before the commencement of Hajj, Pilgrims should make an intention with open heart or niyyah of Hajj.
“Labbaik Allahumma Umrah wal Hajj”.
2. Talibiyah of Hajj
This Duaa is recited the most and holds great weight during Hajj. After reciting it, Pilgrims should make supplication to ALLAH for his pleasure, pray for Jannat and freedom from the Jahannum.
“Labbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbaika la shareeka laka labbaik, innal hamda wanne’matah laka wal mulk, la shareeka laka”
“I am present, O Allah, I am present, there is no partner unto You. I am present. Definitely praise and glory are yours (for You). The Kingdom is also Yours. There is no partner for You”.
3. Entering Masjid ul Haram
“Allahhummaaftah li abwaba rahmatik” (“O Allah the doors to your mercy”)
4. Supplication during Tawaf
“Subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wala ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wala hawla wala quwwata illa billah” “Glory be to Allah, All praise is to Allah, there is no god but Allah. There is no power and no strength except in Allah.”
5. Supplication towards the end of Tawaf
Rabbana aatina fidduniya hasanah wa fil aakhirati hasanah wa qina azaban nar.”
(“O Allah, our Lord, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of fire”).
6. Supplication during Safaa and Marwa
Firstly go to Mount Safaa, any step of it, and face the qibla. Raise your hands, and say the following verse:
“Innas-Safaa wal marwata min sha’aairillah” (“Verily! Safaa and Al Marwah (two mountains in Mecca (Makkah al-Mukarramah)) are of the Symbols of Allah”).
Then say the following dua three times.
“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaha ilallah wahdahu lashareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, wa huwa ala kulli shayyin qadir, laa ilaha ilallah wahdahu, anjaza wadahu, wanasara abdahu, wahazamal ahzaab wahadau” (Allah is Great! Allah is Great! Allah is Great!
There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, no partner has He, for Him is the sovereignty and the praise, and He is able to do all things. There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, He helps his servants, He dealt with the confederate alone).
The power and significance of these supplications are incredible and all Muslim pilgrims who embark on Hajj are required to recite them at the appropriate times. This is done so as to gain the ultimate rewards of this holy journey from their Creator.
7. Upon visiting the Prophet SAW’s and his two companion’s graves
1 – The visitor should stand in front of the grave of the Prophet and say, “Al-salaamu ‘alayka ayyuha’l-Nabiyyu wa rahmat-Allaahi wa barakaatuhu (Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allah).”
2 – The visitor should take one step to his right so that he is in front of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and say, “Al-salaamu ‘alayka ya Aba Bakr, al-salaamu ‘alayka ya khaleefat Rasool-illaah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fi ummatihi, radiya Allaahu ‘anka wa jazaaka ‘an ummati Muhammadin khayran.
3 – Then the visitor should take one step to his right so that he is in front of ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and say, “Al-salaamu ‘alayka ya ‘Umar, al-salaamu ‘alayka ya ameer al-mu’mineen, radiya Allaahu ‘anka wa jazaaka ‘an ummati Muhammadin khayran (Peace be upon you, O ‘Umar, peace be upon you, O leader of the believers, may Allah be pleased with you and reward you with good on behalf of Muhammad).
