Why do we need to memorize and recite the Umrah Dua?
Every single step of the Umrah experience, starting from the day of the departure until the final tawaf, includes important supplications, which remind a believer of their mission and of their need to unite their hearts with Allah during their pilgrimage.
These duas make one stronger in faith and ensure that the mind is concentrated on worship and not on worldly distractions.

Essential Duas or Umrah
1. Dua Before Leaving for Umrah
Before departing for Umrah, it is recommended to make a dua asking Allah for a safe journey and acceptance of your pilgrimage.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
2. Dua When Starting the Journey
When you begin your journey, whether by plane, car, or any other means, it’s a Sunnah to recite this dua for traveling:
اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ ، وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ ،
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِيْ سَفَرِنَا هٰذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَىٰ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هٰذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ ،
اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ ، وَالْخَلِيْفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنْظَرِ
، وَسُوْءِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ فِيْ الْمَالِ وَالْأَهْلِ
3. Dua Upon Arrival
Upon reaching the sacred cities of Makkah or Madinah, take a moment to recite this Umrah dua to seek refuge from any evil.
أَعُوْذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللّٰهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
4. Dua before entering the state of Ihram
Wearing Ihram symbolizes purity and equality before Allah, so enter this state with mindfulness and humility. Every pilgrim should recite this Umrah dua:
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ ، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ
5. Dua for the Intention of Umrah
Making the intention is a crucial step in beginning your pilgrimage. Once you’ve entered the state of Ihram, recite his dua:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُرِيْدُ الْعُمْرَةَ فَيَسِّرْهَا لِيْ وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّيْ
6. Talbiyah
Along with making the intention of Umrah, pilgrims also start reciting Talbiyah as much as possible, in all conditions, including while standing, walking, travelling, or lying down.
لَبَّيْكَ اللهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ, لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ , إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ , لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ
But you should stop reciting it just before the commencement of the Tawaf of Umrah.
7. Dua Upon Entering the Masjid al-Haram
Once you reach Makkah, your heart fills with awe as you enter Masjid al-Haram. At this stage, reciting this dua:
بسمِ اللهِ والسَّلامُ على رسولِ اللهِ ، اللَّهمَّ اغفِرْ لي ذنوبي وافتَحْ لي أبوابَ رحمتِك
8. Dua for Tawaf
During Tawaf time, it is not compulsory to recite one fixed dua, but many recommend making niyah when starting Tawaf with this dua:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ, اَللَّهُ أكبر, و لِلَّهِ الحَمدَ
9. Dua at Safa and Marwah
When performing Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, there are specific essential du’as for Umrah that you can say.
When you climb the Safa for the first time, recite this:
إِنَّ ٱلصَّفَا وَٱلْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَآئِرِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَنْ حَجَّ ٱلْبَيْتَ أَوِ ٱعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا ۚ وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًۭا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ
When you reach on top of the Marwa hill, recite:
اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ ، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ ، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ ، أَنْجَزَ وَعْدَهُ ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ ، وَهَزَمَ الْأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ
10. Dua After Completing Umrah
Once you complete Umrah, it’s important to make dua of thanks and seek acceptance. Recite:
بِسْمِ اللّهِ وَالصَّلاَةُ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللّهِ، اَللَّهُـمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْـلِكَ
Before departure, take time to memorize these supplications, understand their meanings, and recite them with sincerity. The more effort you put into learning your Umrah dua, the more spiritually rewarding your pilgrimage will be.
