Visiting the Prophet Grave is Sunnah

Prophet Grave

Every believer and a true Muslim have got the desire to visit the grave of the Holy Prophet ﷺ once in his life. There are some people who spend their entire savings just on having a glimpse of that glorious site. But there are some individuals who have corrupted the minds of the Muslim Ummah and misled them from the real purpose. False information surely travels fast than usual. The extremists who spread falsehood about visiting the Prophet’s grave declare it as Haram and a Biddah (innovation).

Visiting the grave of Prophet ﷺ is known as Ziyaarat. Representing oneself in the court of our beloved Prophet ﷺin Madinah Munawwara is a blessing indeed. It must be said that a massive flow of sawaab has come in the way of that person. Hence, it is upon that person to avail the benefit from this amazing blessing and send as much salawat as possible.

Etiquettes of visiting the Prophet Grave

It has been observed that due to lack of knowledge, a number of people don’t really enjoy the spiritual benefits and sawab of attending. There are certain manners that one has to observe when doing Ziyaarat. We have learned these adaab (etiquettes) from the Sahabah (R.A). They are also known as the Sunnah of visiting. Let’s have a look at some of them:

  • It is Sunnah for a visitor to enter Masjid-e-Nabvi with is right foot first, by uttering the supplication of entering mosques.
  • One is required to offer two rakat in salutation of the Masjid. He may also offer any prayer he likes.
  • It is recommended to go near the pulpit and offer the prayer in such a way that your right elbow touches the pillar as much as possible. In an authentic hadith, Prophet ﷺ stated “The space between my house and my pulpit is raudah which is one of the gardens from the paradise and my pulpit is at my fountain.
  • After offering the prayer, the person is supposed to approach the grave of Prophet ﷺ. He must have his face towards the grave and back towards the Qiblah and say Sawalat.

The person must then ask Allah to forgive his sins by repenting truly. Then he should supplicate whatever good in this life and the hereafter he desires.

One of the best blessings of visiting the graveyard of Prophet ﷺ is that you get qualified for his intercession (shafa’at).  In an authentic hadith, Prophet ﷺ said:

“My shafa’at is waajab (mandatory) for the person who visits my grave”

On the right side of the grave of Prophet, Muhammadﷺ is the grave of his beloved companion, Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (R.A). You must recite the following salawat on his grave:

the grave of Hazrat Umar (R.A) is also there. It is located at the right of the grave of Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddque (R.A). You must recite the following salawat on his grave:

You can ask Allah SWT to grant your wish by making Prophet Muhammad ﷺ the waseela. The more sincere you are in your love for Allah, His Messenger ﷺ, and the companions, the more quickly your dua will be accepted.
